Telepathy: An OSINT Toolkit for Investigating Telegram Chats

Overview

A comprehensive toolkit for investigating Telegram chats. Developed by Jordan Wildon.

Features

  • Export all chats your account is part of to a CSV file
  • Enable channel reply retrieval, archiving replies and listing users who replied to messages in the target channel
  • Automatic translation into English during message retrieval
  • Inferred channel memberlists offer a point of further investigation for usernames found
  • Media archive directory navigation and Exiftool execution may provide useful information for further investigation

Bonus Investigations Tips

  • Run Exiftool on media files to extract metadata, including creation and edit time metadata, timezone information, and author data (where available)
  • Use Maigret to look up where a username has been used online, verifying findings to avoid false positives

Note on Telegram's Chat Organization

Telegram chats are organized into three key types: Channels, Megagroups/Supergroups, and Gigagroups. Each option works slightly differently depending on the chat type.

Upcoming Changes

  • Time specification flag to set archiving for specific periods
  • Complete memberlist gathering (currently restricted by the API)
  • Ensuring inferred channel memberlists do not contain duplicate entries
  • Channel event inclusion, such as name changes
